Athletics has always been a very important part of St. Matthew’s history. In 1929, it was bowling, mushball, and hardball. Today, St. Matthew offers two golf teams, a softball team, basketball, co-ed volleyball and power co-ed volleyball teams.

All teams play in competitive leagues. To help defray costs of uniforms, officials and entry fees, all participates are asked to help park cars in the St. Matthew parking lot during the York Fair in September. There are some additional fees that are paid by individual participants.

Golf season is from April to August and games are played at Briarwood Golf Course.

The Softball Team begins practice the end of March and their season is from April to August. Practices and home games are played at John Rudy Park.

Basketball begins in mid September with games starting in November at St. Matthew, First Church of the Brethren and Aldersgate United Methodist Churches. The season ends in March.

The Co-ed Volleyball team begins practice in October and their league competes from November through March. Games are played at Stillmeadow Church of the Brethren. St. Matthew won the volleyball league championship in 2006 and 2007.
