Athletics

Athletics has always been a very important part of St. Matthew’s history. In 1929, it was bowling, mushball, and hardball. Today, St. Matthew offers a golf team, softball team, two basketball teams, and recreation ladies volleyball.

All teams play in competitive leagues except the ladies volleyball, that's for fun. To help defray costs of uniforms, officials and entry fees, all participates are required to help park cars in the St. Matthew parking lot during the York Fair in September. There are some additional fees that are paid by individual participants.

Golf season is from April to August and matches are played at Briarwood Golf Course.

The Softball Team begins practice the end of March and their season is from April to August. Practices and home games are played at John Rudy Park.

Basketball begins in mid September with games starting in November at St. Matthew and First Church of the Brethren. The season ends in March.

The Ladies Recreational Volleyball is a very long tradition here at St. Matthew. The ladies begin mid September and finishes at the end of May. The fun starts at 6:45 PM in the St. Matthew gym. You do not need to be a member of the church to participate. It's just a group of ladies getting a little exercise and lots of fellowship and laughs.
