Why Put Off Until Tomorrow…
In the second book of the Bible, Exodus, the story is told of ten plagues sent by God’s servant Moses upon the Pharaoh and the people of Egypt. One of the plagues was of frogs! (read Exodus 8:1-15)
There were frogs everywhere, and I mean everywhere! Pharaoh called for Moses to pray to God to get rid of the frogs. When Moses asked the Pharaoh when God should remove this plague of frogs, Pharaoh said, “Tomorrow.”
Amazing! One would think that Pharaoh would want the frog plague removed now. Yet, it seems to be human nature. We’ll deal with our problems or situations calling for action and change tomorrow.
Many love to procrastinate, avoid the issue or problem and hope it “goes away.”
We may become angry with God and complain, “Why are all these ‘frogs’ in my life?” “Why doesn’t God do something?” Maybe the first question ought to be: what are we doing about it? God is always ready to help and to lead. Why do we find ourselves waiting to do what we know we should do?
We are not meant to face life alone. God wants to be with us to guide us and direct us. We cannot be the people God wants us to be with God. We cannot achieve purpose, value, significance as long as we say “tomorrow” to God and allow the “frogs” to remain in our lives.
Someone has suggested that it’s as easy as ABC: Accept God’s love; Believe that Jesus died and rose from the grave to give life and salvation; Commit to making God’s love and Jesus’ sacrifice more real and present in your life.
